So like any good pony fan, I dipped my toe in the pool of generations past a while ago by watching "Rescue from Midnight Castle", the G1 pilot.
I, uh, didn't think much of it. SORRY OLD SKOOL CHUMS.
I did, however, think the villains were pretty boss. There was Tirek, some freaky centaur thing with the gravitastic voice of Victor Caroli. And then there was Scorpan, who I really digged right up until - spoiler warning - Tirek pimp slapped him twice and he turned into a prince.
Well OK then. Have a Scorpan! I'm trying a new stylistic thingy too.
I have mixed feelings about the first gen. On the one hand, BADASS DnD CREATURES AHOY. On the other, so much was poorly written or conceived that it makes me cringe.
I will admit to liking the seaponies unironically though

Hey, Scorpan definitely deserves some love, so I'm glad you gave him at least a good drawing. After all, if it weren't for him Megan would have fallen to her death and Spike would have ended up on a .. er, spike? He looks pretty true to form here, angry as he is (for many valid reasons).
Scorpan's relationship to the original Spike reminds me of Twilight's relationship to her little baby draogn. (Fortunately the moder Spikes voice aint so annoying).
Tierak threatened to make Spike a head shorter, thus violating the First Law of Japanese animation (Never abuse the hired help), then he had the audacity to be surprised when Scorpan switched sides. Imagine if someone tried to compel Twilight's obedience by threatening to make HER Spike's head roll...
Of course, the villains that don't abuse the hired help often do better. Look at Hank Scorpio from The Simpsons. Last we heard of him, he'd seized control of the East Coast of the USA.
...till I saw the villains.
Especially this guy.

Followed by, "Don't Gloat" and, "If it is cute, its dangerous. Leave it alone, or kill it quickly."
Decades before the Evil Overlord List became popular.
